TT bikes, tired legs and a race

Mark EWERS's picture

I'm so happy it's finally Friday. Did this week seem really long to you too?

First and foremost, y'all saw the comment I made about Andy Coggan's wife's (Angie's) bike, right? Check below for a photo. Andy sent it to me today. Thanks Andy! Like I said, that's one sexy machine. And good as it looks, the photo doesn't do it justice.

This bike's already got me into trouble too.

I don't get it. Why am I so tired? The season's just getting started and I'm feeling all worn out. What's up with that? Maybe I need a nap.

You know what really bothers me? At Wednesday's TT I didn't want to really push into the pain. I've never been one to back away from self-induced suffering as far as I can remember. I got a lock on it this week though.

I'd take a day or two off but the weather's suddenly turned golden. Nothing but sunny and warm in the forecast. There's bound to be a big turnout for the State Road Race on Sunday. Ah, and there's another reason I won't be taking a day or two off.

I suppose I could just sit home on the couch like most everyone else. Not on your life. After all, Sunday will be my last race as a Cat 5. That is, assuming I get OK'd for an early upgrade.

Hope your weekend goes better than mine.

That front wheel looks familar

It even has the same tire!

That is one sexy bike. I really like the looks of that single speed.

Andy, could you post up some info on that disk? I am not familiar with that model...it looks like a clincher 808 with a fairing/disk conversion.

Classy touch to have her name and the flag on the bike. That is the sign that the bike is not the only thing that is fast;)

The disk is Zipp's "bulged"

The disk is Zipp's "bulged" clincher, which I think first became available in late 2006. It's similar to the new Sub-9 tubular, but based on the 808 profile rather than the newer (deeper) 1080 profile. In the wind tunnel this pair of wheels was significantly faster than a rebadged version of the 404/flat disk that Angie used to win nationals 2002.

According to my wife, having your name on your bike only really counts if it is under the clearcoat. ;-) I couldn't swing that, but figured that the bike still deserved a little personal touch.

clear nail polish?

Does that count as clear coat?

Thanks for the info. That is one seriously nice bike, and I understand it is not just for show (she can fly low).

nice result on the road

nice result on the road race! could you give us a blow-by-blow on how it unfolded?
