Riding, not building

Alas, just another boring entry about riding my bike today. Nothing exciting going on here like cutting tubes and welding and such. Just good old plain turning the cranks and racking up miles and mega-joules.

Yeah, mega-joules. I discovered that my PCV (for the non-SRM set, that's PowerControl V) keeps track of mega-joules. Do I really need to know how many millions of joules of work I've done? I don't even know if it's measuring from the last recharge, the last month, the beginning of the year... maybe since the beginning of time?

It's sort of like how many miles you rode last year, a worthless statistic. Or maybe not so worthless, come to think of it. If you ask me how many miles I rode last year I could always answer that I don't know (because I really don't), or I could make some idiotic comment about mega-joules.

One thing knowing mega-joules should actually be good for, however, is figuring out the equivalent number of beers, or snickers bars, or hydrogen bombs worth of energy I've ridden.

Yeah, that's the kind of good stuff I need to be carrying around in my head.

Oh, but I did ride today. About 30 miles' worth in about 90 minutes. In all I did a total of 1.334 mega-joules of work.

Cool...

I rode again today too. That is like 4 days of trail riding in a row! That really should not be a big deal, but this year's weather (rain) has taught me to enjoy every minute of sunshine.

Great people and great weather for this ride. The threat of rain prevented me from packing a cooler for the group (I figured we would get rained out so I bagged the idea this morning). Too bad, it was a great group and beers would have been a good cap for that ride. Not sure how many joules of work we did or what percentage of a hydrogen bomb we produced...but we sure had a blast (pun intended).

When's it measuring from...

I believe that the PCV measures energy from the last time that you cleared the mileage from the unit.

I'll have to check that

So it's just the work done since the last download and clear? Or do you mean it's the sum of all work done accumulating the mileage in the unit's "odometer"?

The former would be easy for the PCV to measure. The later would require the software to look at my profile and add up the work from all the files I have created.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Follow up

In the "Setup Powercontrol" screen, when you click on the "Clear Odo" button a warning comes up saying: "Total distance, energy and time will be set to 0". From this I would presume that it's the sum of the work done since last clearing the odometer.
